Honoring old Old Glories
DALLAS, TX. — June 1, 2010 — Oldwornflag.com and the Dallas Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will sponsor a free, public flag retirement ceremony to commemorate Flag Day on June 13th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Flag Pole Hill, 8100 Doran Circle, Dallas, Texas, 75238.
Throughout the year, oldwornflag.com solicits worn and torn flags from homes, schools, and businesses to ensure they are retired with the dignity and respect they deserve.
The dutiful and colorful event will begin with live patriotic music provided by Annie Benjamin followed by a welcome address by Dallas City Councilman Jerry Allen. The dignified ceremony will include participation from various service, veteran and civic organizations. The first 30 City of Dallas residents presenting an old, worn flag for retirement will be gifted a new U.S. flag courtesy of Betsy Ross Flag Girls, Inc.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, a live rifle volley will be presented by the Lone Star Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America and “Taps” will be played by Bugles Across America, a non-profit organization of buglers across the country.
The League of Women Voters of Dallas will be on site assisting citizens with voter registration.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their old, worn national and/or state flags, a lawn chair, and a pair of scissors if they wish to participate in dismantling the flags before they are placed into the ceremonial fires.
