Flag Day Ceremony: Sunday, June 13
A public flag retirement ceremony took place at Flag Pole Hill in Dallas on Sunday, June 13, 2010. Click here for details. You can also find a variety of news stories about the event by visiting our news page. Check back soon for pictures taken during the ceremony.

Throughout the year oldwornflag.com solicits worn and torn flags from homes, schools, and businesses. We provide this as a free community service in order to ensure that the flags are retired with the dignity they deserve. We sponsor free public flag retirement ceremonies twice a year: on, or near Flag Day and on, or near Veterans Day.

For many years, oldwornflag.com founder Jeanette Prasifka organized flag retirement ceremonies during the State Fair of Texas on behalf of The Jane Douglas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In 2009, as a result of two Dallas Morning News articles spotlighting oldwornflag.com, Ms. Prasifka received an outpouring of flags needing retirement. Hundreds of flags from all across the country were sent by people entrusting her to retire their old, worn flags in a dignified and respectful manner. As a result, a larger venue was needed to accommodate the ceremony.

Believing it was important that the ceremony be a free, public event that could be enjoyed by all, Ms. Prasifka arranged for the ceremonies to be relocated to Flag Pole Hill in Dallas. To see pictures of the first ceremony conducted at Flag Pole Hill, click on the 2009 link.
